‘Guardians of the Galaxy 2’ Release Date & Plot: Ronan is Dead! Sequel to Deviate from Comic Books

The storyline for “Guardians of the Galaxy 2” has just been completed by director James Gunn. After having written and directed the movie’s predecessor to critical, as well as financial success, he was given free rein to come up with his own ideas for the sequel, somewhat deviating a bit from the source material – the comic books.

Now that he has finished the story and pitched it to Marvel, they reportedly loved it, according to Screen Rant. However, they did refer to it as a “risk,” though. “Not everything is going to happen in the movies the same as the comics,” he revealed, and later added that, “Ronan is a bad guy, we killed him.”

After having faced the executives and producers, namely, Victoria Alonso, Kevin Feige, Jonathan Schwartz, and Louis D’Esposito, he referred to his session as the “best experience he ever had with a pitch.”

“I turned in my treatment,” he said via his Periscope broadcasting account. “I am going in to meet about it Friday and we will start working on the screenplay next week.” He later added that the script that he wrote was “very, very far along,” perhaps referring to the fact that it is 70 pages long.

Furthermore, he admitted that a little improvisation was in-play, especially during rehearsals, which he later adds to the film’s script.

According to him, he had to plot out the whole story before writing it down. His style may have been a bit unconventional, but he has claimed that the hardest thing that he has done for the franchise was actually the setting up and the designing of the characters. However, since all of those have already been established in the first movie, he no longer had any problems with the franchise’s core characters.

That said, he also reportedly found a way for Karen Gillian to play the role of Nebula without having to shave off her hair. For Rocket and Groot’s roles, which are voiced by Bradley Cooper and Vin Diesel, respectively, he said that they did not have to “do motion capture.” He admitted that there are times when they merely reference their images.

He has not revealed much about the events that will transpire in the movie’s plot, but he did share that the sequel will be introducing the father of Star-Lord, the character played by Chris Pratt. Apart from that, he mentioned that fans of the franchise will know the characters in a “deeper way” and will realize that they are actually “worse” then they might have initially thought.
