Jim Houston's Palm Springs Estate Listed for $11 Million

Respected philantropist Jim Houston's 11,000-square-foot Palm Springs estate is reportedly listed for $11 Million.

The main residence has 5 bedrooms and two guesthouses with one bedroom each, says Windermeresocal.com. Scott Histed, Premier Director of the Windermere Real Estate Southern California is its listing agent.

Histed told the Desert Sun that Houston's reason for selling his home is to downsize, but his neighbors will not really miss his endearing presence. "He is staying in the valley. He's not going far at all," Histed explained.

Although the agent did not reveal much of Houston's specific plans about his next residence, it is clear that the philantropist loves Palm Springs so much. "He's got a wonderful life here, and his family is here. His son and daughter-in-law and grandson live here in the valley. And he has no intention of leaving."

The home, also known as the Houston South, was constructed in 2003 and its aura truly defines the vibrant feel of Palm Springs, the Desert Sun adds. Outside, you can feast your eyes on masterfully-groomed, lush grounds and inside, the furnishing and decors will welcome you home with its spirited sun-kissed motiff.

The estate, located in Old Las Palmas, had reportedly welcomed "every soirée from the intimate luncheon to the annual Halloween costume parties." Jim and his late wife, Jackie Lee Houston's residence was also a witness to their noble works as several charitable gatherings were held in the mansion.

In 2012 for instance, Desert Cancer Foundation's 14th Annual Gift of Life Celebration was celebrated at Houston's estate in Palm Springs, notes the Desert Sun.

One feature of the house the guests would always remember is its "climate-controlled wine room". They would also love reminiscing the high ceilings and garden areas that adorned their parties.

Aside from its grandeur and glamor, the house was masterfully-planned, Histed explained.

"In Palm Springs, this is a first, ever. Especially when you factor in the quality of the house. The house is done to perfection," Histed said. "There is even little things like a 2,000-gallon water-storage tank, in the event of an earthquake. There's generators of hotel quality. It was a very thought-out house."

The home. sitting on 1.5 acres of land, has custom-built wood-and-steel cabinetry,air-conditioned 4-car garage and "pocketed high-end sliders to bring the outdoors inside," as described in the Desert Sun report.

Even the master suite has automated clothing conveyer system, Histed added. "It's over the top. And everything is so automated. It's the most outstanding house I've ever seen here in the valley, at all," he said.
