The perennial superpowers and top draws of Tennis figure in this Sunday's clash of the Miami Open championships to be held at the Tennis Center at Crandon Park. Andy Murray held on to beat eight-seed Tomas Berdych (6-4 6-4), while Novak Djokovic bested his American counterpart John Isner {7-6 (7-3) 6-2}.
The matchup would be the 26th time the Serbian superstar and the Scottish legend face each other in their careers, and to what would go down as a semi-final duel rematch of the Indian Wells Masters.
Just a couple of weeks ago, at the BNP Paribas Open, the number one ranked Djokovic had no problem beating out (6-2 6-3) world's no. 4 Andy Murray. That match eventually paved the way for the highly anticipated battle between the former no. 1 and currently no. 2 ranked Roger Federer, as per Reuters.
Novak leads the ATP Tour career head-to-head record which now stands at 17-8, and has won six of their last matches. Murray last tasted victory against Djokovic during the 2012 US Open that went the distance, as noted by the International Business Times.
"That gives me confidence, and maybe a slight mental advantage," Djokovic said. "But we're talking about small margins. That's always the case when we play against each other."
While Murray is looking to get even for the loss, Djokovic is out to nab the win on his way to becoming the first ever to string an Indian Wells-Miami Open back-to-back wins three times according to the ATP World Tour. The unprecedented feat has eluded even the legends of the sport like Pete Sampras, Andre Agassi, and Michael Chang who have done it in just two occasions.
