A few days after "Furious 7" hit theaters to become a box-office hit, fans of the franchise that made the Paul Walker and Vin Diesel duo popular are now wondering if there is a sequel coming out soon.
The seventh film is the last movie Walker would feature in the franchise. The actor passed away in November 2013 while "Furious 7" was still in production. His untimely demise has left many speculating on what's next for the car series.
If the reports on the movie's opening weekend are any indication, it seems not impossible to see an eighth film be in the works soon.
According to Reuters, the film opened during the Easter weekend to a high $143.6 million, making it the highest-grossing film from the popular franchise. It also toppled down "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" from the No. 1 spot of top grossing films released in the month of April.
BoxOffice.com Vice President and Chief Analyst Phil Contrino said, "Walker's passing made this movie more intriguing for people who hadn't seen some of the installments. It raised awareness and its success is a tribute to him."
With mostly positive reviews for the movie, a sequel to "Furious 7" could be a good idea. However, the possibility could only become a reality if fans ask for it, said Jordana Brewster.
Brewster plays the role of Mia Toretto, wife of Walker's character Brian O'Conner and sister of Vin Diesel's Dominic. A report in Beauty World News said the actress has thought about an eighth film and if it would happen.
"I don't know if I'd do another film, but it's always dependent on the fans," said the 34-year old actress. 'If they want one and if there's an appetite for it. We never want to jump the shark!"
Even Diesel has hinted on the possibility of another film in the franchise.
According to an earlier report in Realty Today, the actor told Jimmy Kimmel that some characters introduced in "Furious 7" were really tapped for the film after it.
"You know I always think of these films multiple pictures in advance. I think of them as trilogies. Kurt Russell came in for this movie, but he was really, we really hired him because of a story that follows this. That takes place in New York," revealed Diesel.
The studio behind the franchise has not confirmed this and it remains to be seen if an eighth movie would come out soon.
"Furious 7" opened in theaters on April 3.
