News regarding the fifth installment of the "Transformers" franchise has been limited but according to a source, a new writer has been identified to breathe new life into the series.
Christian Today reported that per the IB Times, the sequel to the Mark Wahlberg-led film, "Transformers: Age of Extinction" may be penned by "A Beautiful Mind" writer Akiva Goldsman.
Goldsman will reportedly be an overseer who will supervise the progress of a writer team that will develop the sequel's plot and storyline.
Additionally, "Goldsman and his pool of writers will brainstorm for spin-offs in the film hammer down the details for the next 'Transformers'."
There are a lot of rumors circulating about who will appear in the new film. As earlier reported, there are varying leaks that indicate we could see Mark Wahlberg return for the sequel but others indicate original cast Megan Fox and Shia LaBeouf could also reprise their roles.
However, Wahlberg has confirmed that he'll be returning for the fifth installment. When asked if he'll be doing more "Transformers" related projects after "Age of Extinction," the actor replied in the affirmative.
"Yeah, I committed to doing a couple more," Wahlberg said when asked if he was contracted for anything beyond 'Age of Extinction'," quoted MTV of the actor.
In addition to the rumors, Paramount has announced that plans are underdevelopment for series spinoffs, recalls Inquisitr.
"Paramount Pictures has announced plans to branch the Transformers series off into spinoff films, much like the X-Men series. This way, we might get a lot more than two more movies in the series, and it might end up taking up as much shelf space as the Marvel Cinematic Universe."
Based on the way the fourth film ended, the site reports that the likely storyline will follow the confrontation of Optimus Prime and the Quintessons (the creators) with a showdown that could lead to the end. Should this be the concluding film, it's believed we could see it split into two parts.
Franchise director Michael Bay has already passed on the fifth installment, reported ScreenRant earlier.
"There's kind of a new chapter, a new direction in movies I want to make," says Bay, who is eyeing a passion project, a documentary on elephant poaching. "I have a lot of stories to tell. And it's about flexing new muscles."
There is not set release date for "Transformers 5", it's expected that the film will be released sometime in 2016. A new director has not been announced.
