Fans of "Fast and the Furious" franchise who already saw the movie over the weekend were touched and shed tears over the last scene of the movie. However, if it were not for the death of actor Paul Walker, fans would be treated to a different ending - one that would prepare them for the next ride in the "Fast and the Furious 8."
In an interview with the Collider, movie director James Wan revealed that the original ending of the film was far different from what the moviegoers saw.
Wan admitted that before Walker's death, the movie's last scene was supposed to pave the way for the next installment, "Fast and the Furious 8."
"The original ending of 'Furious 7' was setting up, you know, the bigger world of where the 'Fast and Furious' franchise could go into. And that's obviously very smart of them to think so," shared the director.
Screen Rant reported that in the original plan, Walker's character, Brian O'Connor, would have a story arc that allowed him to return for future films in the franchise.
Things changed when the 40-year-old actor died in a car crash in November 2013, which was before the completion of the movie. This led the production company, cast, and crew to see the film, which was Walker's last, as a tribute to his memory.
Wan continued, "But when the tragedy happened, all of that became irrelevant. So it did not matter anymore, all of that stuff. And to the studio's credit, they did not push for that. They realized how important it was to make a movie that finishes and that just outright is a tribute to Paul Walker. So I give them a lot of credit for being bigger than that and going along with this ending that is the right ending to go with."
While Walker might not be alive to continue with the franchise anymore, it seems that the other cast members and production are not yet ready to let go of "Fast and the Furious" just yet.
Reports of the upcoming eighth film have been circulating ever since Vin Diesel went on as a guest on the Jimmy Kimmel show and teased fans of the next installment in the franchise.
An earlier report in Realty Today said that Diesel hinted of more exciting things in store for his character Dominic Toretto. The actor also revealed that the next film might "take place in New York."
"Fast and the Furious 7" is now showing in theaters.
