Motorola reportedly has plans to upgrade their Moto X, Moto E, and Moto G 4G units directly to the Android 5.1 especially after their techs tested out the Android 5.0.2 update. David Shuster, the software product manager of the company, made the announcement using Google+.
According to his post, the company decided to improve the first generation versions of the Moto X, Moto E, and Moto G 4G to give these a fresher look, as reported by The Fuse Joplin. Phone Arena reported that the tech company’s first generation devices are presently running on an Android KitKat operating system.
“As some of you might know, we have been testing Lollipop 5.0.2 upgrades on Moto X (1st Gen), Moto E (1st Gen), and Moto G with 4G LTE (1st Gen) in several regions,” Shuster wrote. “In parallel, we have started testing Lollipop 5.1, which was recently released by Google.”
“Given the improvements in Lollipop 5.1, we have decided to move all efforts to upgrade these devices directly from KitKat to Lollipop 5.1,” he added.
Moreover, The International Business Times reported that Motorola already started to distribute the Android 5.1 Lollipop update to the Moto G Google Play edition over the air, or OTA. Although Shuster may have confirmed that that 1st generation variants of the Moto X, Moto E, and Moto G 4G will be upgraded directly to the latest android update, he did not say anything about the exact release date.
Since Motorola is already testing out the upgrade, avid Motorola users are convinced that the release date will come pretty soon.
The first generation Moto X is a 4.7-inch smartphone with a 720 x 1280 resolution. It is powered by a dual core processor, Snapdragon S4 chipset, at 1.7 GHz clocking speed. It is a relatively fast device especially because of its 2 GB RAM. Despite its display size, it is still a pretty light gadget, weighing 130 grams.
The Moto G is actually the first budget phone introduced by Motorola. It has a 4.5-inch 720p display. It was once recognized as the king of the class particularly because of the top specs it featured despite the relatively low price. It ran on a more advanced chipset, the Snapdragon 400 at a clocking speed of 1.2 GHz. The only issue that its users had with it was its 1 GB RAM.
Lastly, the Moto E is the brand’s cheapest unit as it is sold at only $120. It has a 4.3-inch display with a 540 x 960 resolution. It sported a 5-megapixel camera on its back but lacked one on its front.
