The baseball season is back! And the fans of the sport will surely "bat" their eyelashes with all the news and happenings during the 2015 opening day; from the unfurling of a giant flag in Philly, to the first pitch at Miller Park courtesy of former Commissioner Bud Selig, and all the first-day game results and highlights.
The MLB has been very generous to its loyal fan base when it comes to providing exciting games and everything in between. But, it has also been good to most of its players throughout its 140 seasons.
Take a look at this list of MLBers who have been magnanimously endowed with by the sport, and have since wisely invested their earnings into real estate.
Jim Edmonds
The former MLB center fielder, who played for both the California Angels and the St. Louis Cardinals, is pretty much into real estate. Edmonds owns a property in Huntington Beach and two others in Missouri. He sold two of his La Quinta homes since the previous year, one of which for $1.6 million and the other for $2.225 million, and a four-bedroom house in Chesterfield for $300,000, as told by the LA Times.
In May 2014, he bought a $1.275 million mansion in Fair Oaks, St. Louis while trying to rid his Orange County residence at a lowered price of $6.95 million.
And just recently, the current presenter and analyst for Fox Sports Midwest has unloaded his Irvine estate in California. The 10,000 square foot property with six beds and eight baths was sold for $6,775,000 according to the Realtor.com.
Jeff Bagwell
Bagwell, who played the infielder position for the Houston Astros, recently sold his French Country-inspired residence in Hunters Creek, Texas. He first listed the 16,414 square foot house on a 2.46 acre lot in the market for $15 million, before finally cutting the price down to $12 million.
The former MLB all-star player's home was rebuilt in 2009 and went through some revamping. It has five bedrooms, seven full bathrooms plus two half-baths, and a garage big enough to hold six cars.
According to its Realtor.com listing, the property is highlighted by a gourmet kitchen, a billiard/media room, a luxurious master suite, four guest suites, loggia furnished with a summer kitchen, wine cellar, two-bedroom guest house, a saltwater pool, and a gym.
Jose Cruz Jr.
The retired MLB outfielder and Golden Glove receiver is a journeyman who played nine professional years in as many different MLB teams which include the Blue Jays, the Giants, and the Dodgers.
The Arroyo, Puerto Rico native is now looking for a new owner for his Miami "plantation-style estate designed by Ramon Pacheco" for $4,450,000 as per Realtor.
The 7,551 square foot single-family home has four beds and 6.5 baths. It also has two-car garage on its lot area of less than an acre. It features high ceilings, his-and-her closets in the elegant master suite, swim pool and Jacuzzi, chef's kitchen, and a couple of courtyards.
Kelvim Escobar
The former MLB pitcher owns a beautiful 6,008 square-foot, modern-type mansion at the Biscaya Drive in Miami-Dade County, Florida. The front bay home has its own dock and a swimming pool. You can check out some photos here courtesy of Realtor.
Escobar has relisted the property for $3,950,000. The original asking price in April last year was $5.25 million. It then "hit every branch on the pricing tree" says Realtor when it went down to $4.75 million; then lowered to $4.5 million, to $4.2 million and to $4 million before settling with its current price tag.
