Galaxy Note Edge and Galaxy Note 3 users with the Sprint carrier will be glad to know that the rollout of the Android 5.0 Lollipop update for their unit will begin very soon. The update may be received within the next 24 hours. However, since there has been no confirmation that any one got the update as of yet, it might take a few days or so before the update notification is reflected on the unit’s home screen.
Considering that the updates are OTA or over the air, the phablet will be notifying its user whenever the update has been received and ready for download and installation. It must also be noted that it is common for updates to be rolled out in stages. That said, the update may take several days before it reaches all units.
However, once there has been no notification after a long time, users can simply update the device manually as long as it is already available. It is highly suggested though that the download and installation must be done by connecting with a Wi-Fi network to avoid incurring high data usage charges.
For the Samsung Galaxy Note Edge, the Android 5.0 Lollipop update has the build version N915PVPU0AOC8, while the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 has the N900PVPUEOC5 build version. The former comes with enhancements to the device’s Wi-Fi calling capabilities as well as built-in protection for factory reset, while the latter version comes with certain enhancements.
The rollout of this particular update follows the software released just last month for the Samsung Galaxy Note 4, as pointed out by GSM Arena.
The change log from Sprint does not indicate much about the changes incorporated into the latest update. However, it was noted that the system has already been switched to Android ART run time compared to Dalvik, which can be found in the earlier versions of Android gadgets. That said, Android Geeks is convinced that there will be a huge number of improvements.
Moreover, Samsung has already updated the Touch Wiz user interface. The updates applied were reportedly based on the guidelines imposed by Google’s Material Design. This could only mean that the new UI will feature a refreshing change.
Apart from the user interface, reports say that the update also comes with a smart lock feature, new quick setting toggle controls, a screen pinning capability, device sharing, security improvements, priority mode, updated lock screen, and a re-designed “Recents” task switcher that comes with a card-based layout.
