Moving to a New Home This Spring? Check Out These 5 Great Tips

This spring, buyers should take advantage of current low mortgage rates of 3.66 percent for a 30-year loan based on the recent Freddie Mac survey reported on the Los Angeles Times.

If you are one of these buyers moving into new homes this Spring, then check out these five great tips for movers like you:

1. Plan Ahead, Start Packing Early

Start packing six to eight weeks early to help you focus on the job more, says Glen Christie from realestate.com.au.

If you have an old home and you want to sell it to help your cash flow more liquid, better list it as soon as possible. Advertise online to improve your visibility or talk to a real estate agent who has portfolio that specializes within your area.

According to Realtor.com, fast-selling areas like San Jose and San Francisco may be sold in just one month this season, but others will take a while. Check out their list, so that you may gauge when to expect the additional cash in your pocket and not leave you wanting.

2. Learn to Leave and Let Go of Some Things

Not all things may be brought to your new home like your garden, and your other old stuff. You may put a garage sale or just give some items away, says Glen Christie.

More importantly, you must learn to prepare your children to accept that you are leaving soon. They may feel lonely as they will be parting with some of their closest friends. Just tell them that they are still free to contact their friends via phone or social media. Plan trips with their best friends during the holidays. Also, tell your kids, they will meet new friends in your new home, too.

3. Settle All Your Bills and Redirect Mails

Not receiving your bills will be a hassle come due dates. Call or email companies to ask them to change your listed address, says realestate.com.au. Be very mindful of more important letters like credit card and bank statements.

4. Label Your Boxes and Handle Some Items With Care

You must not underestimate the power of labeling, says Zillow. It will make your packing faster and unloading these items from the boxes would be a breeze, too. The blog notes that you must handle some items more carefully. Use cling wrap to prevent your necklaces from tangling and you may wrap fragile dishes in cloths or shirts to protect them.

5. Be Meticulous, Make Your New Home Ready to Welcome You

Before buying, ensure that the property will be in livable condition: The house should be clean and the trash should have been discarded. The previous occupant should also settle remaining bills. Moreover, be sure the new home has utilities ready for you and your insurance is updated, too, says realestate.com.au.

Pack snacks, comfort food and water to rejuvenate you after a tiring day of packing, unpacking, cleaning and organizing.

Then, just relax and welcome happy memories in your new home.
