Sony is finally adding more units to the list of devices that can avail of the Lollipop update. Although the company has been quite slow and late when it comes to the Lollipop game, Sony users will be delighted to know that it is releasing the newest update at a relatively decent pace.
According to GSM Arena, the latest devices that are about to get the latest Android 5.0 Lollipop update are ones that are part of Sony’s Xperia Z line, namely, Xperia Z1, Xperia Z1 Compact, Xperia Z Ultra, and Xperia Z3 Dual.
Some Z1 Compact users in Italy confirmed that they already received the update notification for the Android 5.0 Lollipop. Based on the screenshots they provided in the Internet, the update’s download size for the Z1 Compact is 738 MB. Still, users need to make sure that they have at least 1.2 GB worth of free space in their internal memory before starting the update installation which is reportedly going to take approximately 20 minutes.
Phone Arena also advised users that apart from storage space, they also have to take into account the remaining battery life of their units. Before the installation is initiated, owners must first make sure that their batteries have been charged to at least 50 percent. It is also reportedly best if the installation is ran after hooking up the device to a Wi-Fi network to avoid incurring hefty mobile data charges.
The report also mentioned that the Android 5.0 Lollipop is only going to be rolled out to certain regions under the build number 14.5.A.0.242. Those who are fortunate to get the update will be getting an all-new Material Design, a new 64-bit ART runtime compiler that opens apps faster, new notifications for the Lock Screen, a new screen for the Recent Apps feature, as well as Project Volta for longer battery life.
It must also be noted that the build version might change through the weeks or months, especially as the receiving devices are different from one another. However, what they all have in common is that the update distribution will all start today.
According to the report, Sony will be rolling out the Android 5.0 Lollipop to the Xperia T2 Ultra and the Xperia C3 next week, including their dual-SIM variants. A few weeks after that, the update will be distributed to the remaining devices under the Xperia Z series such as the Xperia Z, Xperia ZL, Xperia ZR, and Xperia Tablet Z.
