Nat Rothschild Lists Manhattan Townhouse at $17.5 Million

An heir to the Rothschild banking fortune looks to sell his Manhattan residence. Financier Nathaniel "Nat" Rothschild is selling his Manhattan Townhouse located in the West Village for $17.5 million, reports Variety.

The approximately 5,000-square-foot vertical loft has 2 bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms. In addition, the high ceilinged residence has fireplaces as well as a private garden located in the back.

According to the publication, the five-story property is "whimsical and seriously engineered." All floors of the home are interconnected with an English Oak-made floating central staircase and topped with a penthouse pavilion that allows for outdoor entertainment via a roof terrace.

"A lot of people when they're doing their houses, they're too obsessed with taste, what other people will think," quoted Men's Vogue (via NY Curbed) of the house's architect, David Chipperfield, told Men's Vogue. "Nat couldn't care less about all that," he said of the affluent owner.

He also revealed that home design is usually based on a person's daily ritual but that wasn't the case with Nat, "Nat isn't a person who necessarily stays in the house that much. His life is much more eccentric, much more erratic," quoted JewishBusinessNews of Chipperfield.

It was mentioned that Nat was opposed to having a kitchen but after some convincing agreed to have one put in but is located in the house's basement.
