More than three decades since Harrison Ford came up on the big screen as Rick Deckard in the movie, "Blade Runner," news have come out that the long awaited sequel to the film is set to arrive soon. Aside from Ford, word is out that another Hollywood actor is sharing the big screen with him and would eventually take the lead in the story.
Screen Rant reported in February 2015 that the sequel to the 1982 neo-dystopian film would return with Ford back in tow to reprise the role of Deckard, the replicant hunter in the film.
Alcon Entertainment was the first to break the news of Ford's return. Not too many details have been revealed about the story of the upcoming film. However, the statement noted the timeline the movie would follow.
"The story takes place several decades after the conclusion of the 1982 original," said the press release.
While Ford's return is something to be excited about, it seems that the production team is looking to add another A-list actor into the mix and that is none other than Ryan Gosling.
According to Cinema Blend, the 34-year-old actor is in talks to star alongside the veteran actor. The news first broke out in Alcon Entertainment's official website, which wrote about Gosling being in negotiations to join the cast in the sequel.
The statement offered no details on what role the Canadian actor would play in the movie. However, Ridley Scott, who directed the first film, hinted of the role Gosling would take part in should he accept the offer.
Scott revealed the storyline to be divided into three acts, wherein Ford's Deckard would not be seen until the last part. This brought many to speculate that the upcoming movie's lead is actually Gosling while Ford would only act as a supporting cast in the storyline.
Meanwhile, Scott would not join the crew as the director of the film but would take on the role of an executive producer instead. However, his ideas are still present as the screenplay was written based from the concept he came up with writer Hampton Fancher, said Screen Rant.
Denis Villanueve would sit on the directorial chair. He is most famously known for his work in "Prisoners," 'Enemy" and Academy Award nominated film, "Incendies."
"Blade Runner 2" has no release date for the moment though it's pegged to come out sometime in 2017 as principal photography begins in summer 2016.
