Business Magnate Rupert Murdoch Lists Manhattan Penthouse at $72M

Business magnate Rupert Murdoch is ready to let go of his Manhattan penthouse property for $72M, The Wall Street Journal reports.

Last year, the media executive bought the top 4 floors of the downtown property for an already astounding price of $57.25M, according to a WSJ report published in February 2014. Now, with its asking price of $72M, he is set to profit with a wonderful amount of almost $15M. Take note, the top three floors of the property are the only ones on sale, Variety clarifies.

The Manhattan luxury top three floor-property covers almost 6900 sq.ft. of living space, says WSJ. The triplex includes 5 bedroom and 5.5 baths, Variety describes, adding that based on the listing, the property features soaring ceilings and a curved and "a wraparound terrace."

The property also boasts a private elevator available for all the top three floors. Aside from that, the triplex property of the tycoon also offers stunning, 360-degree views of the New York City skyline. WSJ notes that specifically, the Manhattan home caters to views such as Hudson and East rivers and the iconic Empire State Building.

Variety states that the new owner will have to shed around $240K for monthly taxes and other fees, citing data from the property listing.

When Mr. Murdoch purchased it last year, it was in its raw form, notes WSJ. While the other three floors were undergoing renovation in the hands of Architect Jose Ramirez, Mr. Murdoch reportedly stayed in the three-bedroom and 3.5 bathroom simplex unit on the fourth floor from the top.

However, just recently, according to Murdoch's spokesman, although the tycoon is keeping the three-bedroom property in the same building, he is now living in a downtown townhouse, notes WSJ. The townhouse that Mr. Murdoch bought is reportedly luxurious as well.

WSJ cites public records and notes that Mr. Murdoch paid $25 million last month for the Greek Revival townhouse. Mr. Murdoch's new home covers relatively the same space as his triplex being sold now, about 6,500 sq.ft. The townhouse, which developer George Agiovlasitis renovated, also comes with an elevator, a roof deck, gym, wine cellar and a media room.

Inquiries on Mr. Murdoch's Manhattan property will be handled by Dolly Lenz of Dolly Lenz Real Estate, says WSJ.

The 84-year-old business magnate is the executive chairman of News Corp, a corporation which owns Dow Jones & Co., publisher of The Wall Street Journal, says the outlet. Mr. Murdoch is also the CEO and chairman of 21st Century Fox.
