What's next for GoPro? That's the question on everyone's mind as talk of the next-gen GoPro Hero 5 surfaces online.
Reporting on one of the speculations surrounding the action camera, Master Herald notes that the upcoming GoPro could feature an 8K resolution video camera which would put the famous all-terrain device ahead of all its competition.
As earlier reported, the current GoPro device is able to record up to 4K at 30 frames per second and it is reported that it will be able to record up to 8K but at a lower frame rate. Relatedly, there is new that the GoPro Hero 5 would come with the new A10 chip that enables the device to record at a 4K resolution at 60 frames per second.
The publication goes on to share that aside from its resolution, we could also see the waterproof feature improve to 60 meters, up from the earlier capacity of 50 meters in the GoPro Hero 4.
Other expected specs for the newest Hero action-held camera indicates a more efficient battery with 2800 mAh that offers approximately 150 percent improvement from the Hero 4. The new batter should be able to record at least 2 hours of footage on a single charge.
There is also speculation of dual-lens or 3D recording, wide range of connectivity that includes Wi-Fi, HDMI and Bluetooth.
Last year the GoPro Hero 4 shipped in two variants -- the silver and the black model. The black reaped better profits, reports Breathecast, due to its ability to record at 30 FPS on 4K resolution while the silver was popular for those who wanted the touch screen feature. The recording abilities however were less than the black given it was limited to only 15 FPS.
The GoPro Hero series is arguably the best action cam available in the market. The closest competitor, per Gospel Herald would be Sony's 4K Action Cam (X100V) because of its ability to record 4K resolution at 30 FPS. Other specs it comes with include both stabilization, waterproof abilities and GPS.
The GoPro Hero 5 is estimated to sell between $400-$500, based on the current price points of the GoPro Hero 4.
