Chicago Blackhawks' Defense Player Niklas Hjalmarsson Sells River West Town House for $1.7 Million

The Chicago Blackhawks' key defense player, Niklas Hjalmarsson, has sold his River West town house for almost $1.7 million after listing it for only one and a half months, reports Chicago Tribune.

The 27-year-old athlete had a profit of about $400K from the sale as he purchased his former residence for only $1.32M in 2010, adds the news site.

The defenseman's former home covers 4000 sq. ft. of living space which includes four bedrooms, 3.5 baths, wet bar, a modern Kitchen with Viking appliances and a two-car garage. The four-story town house was built in 2000 and features customized closets, lighting, cabinetry and a master suite with a walk-in closet, according to the Chicago Tribune.

The home was reportedly sold through the service of Alex Till of Baird & Warner.

Hjalmarsson started playing for the Blackhawks in 2006 after being drafted in the fourth round of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft, the official site of the Blackhawks states. He was part of the 2010 and 2013 Stanley Cup Championship teams and in September 2013, he was given a five-year extension which the defenseman from Eksjo, Sweden, welcomed with glee.

"I'm really excited with the extension here and I'm really looking forward to next season, and that me and my wife get to stay in Chicago for six more years. I love the city. I love the people in Chicago. They're really friendly and playing in the United Center in front of 23,000 people every game, it's really inspiring. On top of that, we have a good team that can compete for the Cup every year. I really wanted to stay in Chicago and I'm really glad I got the opportunity to do that. To imagine playing for a different team is tough for me because I feel so much for the city and for the team," Hjalmarsson said during a conference call in 2013, as noted by the official site.

Joel Quenneville, Blackhawks coach, prioritizes defense, thus, Hjalmarsson, together with Johnny Oduya, have contributed much to the team, notes ESPN.

Hjalmarsson, knew it too. "I know I'm really strong at the defensive end. I think I had a really good year playing with Johnny [Oduya] and hopefully I can continue pretty much what I did last year. I thought I had a really good year last year and I don't think I have to try to be someone else or try to force stuff that I maybe don't have. I'm going to try to build on what I did last year and try to do it even better," Hjalmarsson said in the same 2013 conference.

Hjalmarsson's role in the succeeding wins of his team is important so he must have a disciplined attitude towards it, says NBC Chicago. The Blackhawks will be playing against the Predators for the fifth game of the best of seven 2015 Stanley Cup Playoff series on April 23. Their current win-loss record is tied at 2-2.
