Less than a month since NetherRealm Studios came out with the highly anticipated "Mortal Kombat X" and fans are already looking forward to what's next for the game. If rumors are to be believed, followers of the fighting game might soon get their hands on a new DLC that would bring playable characters and a new story mode.
Reports of an upcoming "Story DLC" surfaced when the series creator, Ed Boon, responded to a fan question about the game on Twitter, reported IGN. However, Boon did not give out additional details and made his answer very vague.
Twitter user @LazyEyedJ asked Boon, with the Twitter handle @noobde, if there is any chance non-playable characters would be playable soon.
Boon said, "@LazyEdyedJ @noobde So Ed are you secretly gonna patch in the NPC's from story to make them playable? EB: U mean like a 'Story Pack'?"
According to Game Rant, the series creator is famous for leaving hanging comments and tweets to tease the fans and make them speculate. His recent tweet did nothing less. Though cryptic, his reply led fans into a frenzy and speculation that an upcoming DLC would see new playable characters began to surface.
The developers in NetherRealm Studios brought in many new and returning characters for its recent titles. However, there remain a handful of other fan favorites that were not fortunate enough to be included as playable fighters. The list includes Rain, Sindel, Smoke, Kabal, Frost, and Baraka.
The characters are seen in the story mode but not as playable fighters. As such, some fans think that they might soon return to the game as part of the playable roster with a new story mode in the upcoming DLC.
With Boon giving out only a teaser and no specific details, it is unclear whether there is any truth to the reports.
However, some modders of the game proved that they did not have to wait for a new DLC to make the characters playable. One week since its release to the PC, modders were already successful in making Baraka, Sindel, and Rain playable and in full form.
Reddit user XVermillion tweaked the game codes and was successful in making the system think that the three characters mentioned above are actual fighters from the playable roster.
"Mortal Kombat X" recently received an update with Patch 1.02 that stabilized some issues and also introduced new skins for some of the characters, noted Tech Times.
The game is available for current generation consoles PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. Last-gen consoles would soon be able to access it later in the summer of 2015.
