Six months since Google launched the Android 5.0 Lollipop update and many devices are yet to receive it. Even with the delay, the developers behind it were quick enough to create another update, the 5.1 Lollipop, to address all issues and glitches that came out with the first version. Less than a month since it was released, word is out that the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop is ready to hit select units soon.
According to Android Police, an update to the latest Android 5.1 has been spied on the Android Open Source Project. The people behind the website compared all the logs made on the v.5.1.0_r5 against the v5.1.1_r1 and came up with numerous bug fixes that affected select devices when they installed the 5.1 version.
Among the major glitches the upcoming version aims to resolve are the issues in "remote pass through feature on Chromecast," security issues, and a camera timeout that occurs in the Nexus 5 and Nexus 6 devices.
Aside from these three major fixes, there were other concerns the 5.1.1 version would address which include media decoding, telephony concerns, and OS functionality.
The update is a minor release as it only involved around 34 improvements and fixes, noted Ars Technica. In fact, Google has not even officially announced and launched the update.
Tech fans with keen eyes were only able to spy it on the Android Audio Latency info page, said Android Community. They were quick to notice build numbers LMY47W and LMY47S waiting and prepared for the Nexus 7 Wi-Fi and the Nexus 9, respectively.
As the update is still in the development phase, additional changes might be added to it and it remains to be seen when it would actually arrive to smartphones.
A report in NDTV Gadgets said the update first came to the Nexus Player, the digital media player developed by Asus in partnership with Google, with the build number LMY47V and is now available for manual installment via zip file download.
Google has yet to formally issue a statement regarding the Android 5.1.1 update and when users could finally expect it.
For the moment, devices are still on their way to receive the first Android 5.0 Lollipop update. The Moto 4 with 4G LTE, Moto E, Galaxy S5, S4, Galaxy Note 4, and Note Edge already received the Android 5.0.1.
Meanwhile, Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge, Moto X, Nexus 7, and LG G2 from AT&T and T-Mobile already got the Android 5.0.2 update as well.
Select units such as the Moto G GPE, LG G Pad 8.3 GPE, Nexus 5, Nexus Player, HTC One M7 and Sony Z Ultra GPE have all gotten the Android 5.1.
