Justin Bieber fans have been freaking out after news spread like wild fire that Bieber and Hailey Baldwin have gotten engaged.
According to E! News, as it stands both Justin, 21, and Hailey, 18, are still on the market as the trending Twitter topic about the engagement turned out to be fabricated.
The online publication reported that rumor was started by some fans who created the Twitter hashtag #CongratsJustinandHailey and falsely cited TMZ as the outlet that broke the news.
It turns out that the photo used was manipulated and the story began when someone edited a photo of Hailey Baldwin's hand sporting a massive diamond ring which was then watermarked with TMZ's logo. Originally the image had a caption that read "Thanks Mom" but was changed to "Thanks Bieber" with the news outlet's watermark.
As it usually does when it comes to Bieber, the news quickly went viral with fans having mixed reactions. Twitter reactions ranged from shock, disappointment, happiness to utter disbelief.
The news regarding Justin and Hailey were quick to spread because of all the rumors surrounding the alleged couple. Since November, Inquisitr recalls that as the celebrities spent more and more time together, gossip sites were quick to report a blossoming romance.
Hailey Denies Relationship with Justin
Recently, Hailey was featured in the May 2015 issue of Elle Magazine where she discussed her association with the music icon. When Baldwin was asked about Justin, she quickly insisted that they are "just friends," much like her friendship with reality-star-turned-model Kendall Jenner.
"One of my friends from L.A. comes to the city all the time for work, and she stays in her sister's apartment," she told the magazine. "I would basically pack a suitcase from home and just come live with her for a week."
Interestingly enough, Kendall, 19, is another young celebrity that has been linked to the ex-boyfriend of actress/ singer Selena Gomez.
Baldwin has seen a climb in her modelling career with her most recent high-profile gig being a major clothing endorsement. Along with other young stars such as Cara Delevingne and Lily Donaldson, Hailey has become the newest face of Topshop as the UK company's first American Brand Ambassador, notes Design & Trend.
"She's got that twinkle in her eye, and that's something that's like Cara," quoted the publication of Kate Phelan, Topshop creative director. "They've got a great personality, they've got a voice, and I think there's a smartness about them that girls really love-it's almost like they are the return of the supermodel."
