It seems that more exciting things are in store for the fans of "NBA 2K16." Reports came out that the developers behind the popular basketball simulation game convinced Oscar-nominated director Spike Lee to join their team in developing the upcoming title.
According to Polygon, the famous filmmaker and known New York Knicks fan is taking part to create the Career Mode in the "NBA 2K16" video game. A source close to Lee confirmed his participation in the project along with three leaked cover images of the upcoming game.
The photos showed NBA stars James Harden of the Houston Rockets, Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors, and Kevin Durant of the Oklahoma City Thunders. Each cover photo was captioned, "Be The Story," which hinted at the possible mode and project of Lee in the said video game.
Lee is known for his critically acclaimed basketball film, "He Got Game," that featured Ray Allen and other NBA players. A passionate NY Knicks fan, he has also been involved in a rivalry between Reggie Miller and some players from the Indiana Pacers during the 1990s as he watched the game from his courtside seats.
Fans of the video game speculated that Lee's love for the sport would ensure a thrilling and amazing gameplay experience in the upcoming Career Mode of the "NBA 2K16."
While Lee has yet to give a statement regarding his involvement with the game, reports of his collaboration with 2K have been circulating as early as March 2015. An article from the New York Post reported that the 58-year-old director was "in San Francisco working on an NBA video-game project."
With the players revealed for the upcoming cover of the video game, it is reported that Curry, Harden, and Durant would all join Lee as they promote the title in social media channels, noted Sporting News.
This would be Durant's third time to be featured as a cover for the popular game. He joined Blake Griffin and Derrick Rose in the "NBA 2K13" edition and was also the cover athlete for the "NBA 2K15," reported Operation Sports.
Meanwhile, Harden has been part of some promotional videos of the title released last year. Curry is the first-timer among the three, having no previous projects with 2K games before this upcoming release.
"NBA 2K16" would arrive to PlayStation 3, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox 360, and Windows PC in October 2015. The developers have yet to announce an exact date.
