Ever since reports of the strained relationship between Konami and Hideo Kojima came to light, the future of the survival horror video game, "Silent Hills," title became uncertain. Now, word is out that some people directly related to the project confirmed that the sequel to the "Silent Hill" series has been canceled.
According to Game Ranx, acclaimed Spanish director Guillermo del Toro confirmed that the project he was to make with Konami is not pushing through. The 50-year-old filmmaker was at the 58th San Francisco International Film Festival for a screening of his film, "The Devil's Backbone," when he revealed the news.
A tweet posted by TV's Matt Hackney quoted Del Toro, who said, "It's not gonna happen and that breaks my greasy heart."
Actor Norman Reedus, who was also involved with the project, took to Twitter to confirm the reports, said Eurogamer.
Reedus attached a link to a report about Del Toro's comment on the social networking site and added, "Super bummed about this was really looking forward to it. Hopefully it'll come back around. Sorry everyone."
While the news has not been confirmed by anyone from Konami, the sudden plan to remove the Playable Teaser (P.T.) from the PlayStation store in the coming days appeared to have confirmed the news for some fans, said Bloody Disgusting.
The P.T. was the promotional clip that revealed "Silent Hills" last August 2014. The abrupt decision to remove the teaser added fuel to the rumor that the game has indeed been canned, said Ars Technica.
The future of "Silent Hills" became headed to a rocky patch when it was reported that Konami and Japanese video game developer Hideo Kojima had a falling out.
In March 2015, news broke out that Konami was removing all Kojima Productions logos in all of its titles. The company then released a statement to explain the move, said Kotaku.
"In accordance with the recent change in production organization of all Konami, Kojima Productions, as well as other internal production companies, has had its name, etc., changed to move into the corporate headquarters work structure," said the statement.
At that time, the major concern was the release of "Metal Gear Solid V: Phantom Pain," which Kojima is currently working on and has promised to finish. No word was made on other titles he was scheduled to deliver for the firm. However, reports came out that Kojima is leaving after the release of "MGSV."
Should that be the case, then one could surmise that "Silent Hills" is confirmed cancelled and shelved. Konami has yet to come out with an official statement regarding the issue.
