Ian Somerhalder and Nikki Reed are now married after dating each other for only nine months. It would appear that these two celebrities, who have risen to fame from vampire-related franchises, have found eternal love despite a relatively short courtship period.
E! Online has reported that the newlyweds had an intimate, outdoor, sunset wedding ceremony at Topanga Canyon on Sunday. The “Vampire Diaries” actor even took to Twitter to tell his fans and followers about the “Most beautiful morning ever”.
Neither Somerhalder nor Reed, now Mrs. Somerhalder, have revealed any specific details regarding their wedding, but news of their private ceremony surfaced online when photos were posted on the Internet in the early morning of April 27th, according to Hollywood Life.
As seen in the photos, Reed looked beautiful in a lacy, white, backless, fishtail dress that revealed the silky, smooth skin on her back. Despite the simplicity of her wedding gown, which was designed by Claire Pettibone, it reverberated an air of elegance. Somerhalder, meanwhile, looked very dapper in his all-white tuxedo.
The actor’s co-star and ex-girlfriend, Nina Dobrev, also used social media to send out a message on the couple’s special day. It was a cryptic message that seemed to have alluded to the wedding. “Positivity. Love. Happiness,” wrote Dobrev. “That is what I am sending out into the universe. May your day be filled with it. Namaste.”
What Dobrev posted was actually a picture quote that said, “Words have the power to both destroy and heal. When words are both true and kind, they can change our world.”
Apart from playing their own respective vampire roles – Somerhalder was Damon Salvatore in “Vampire Diaries” and Reed was Rosalie Cullen in “Twilight” – they also share a love for animals. The New York Daily News has even stated that they had decided to adopt a horse, which they named Eagle, a month after they were first spotted together in public.
“What has actually, I think, nurtured this long friendship that we have had is that we are passionate about similar things,” Reed told the press earlier this year.
In their nine-month relationship, Reed has admitted that there was always one thing that they had somewhat agreed to disagree. “He thinks his eyes are ocean blue,” she told PEOPLE. “I think they are aqua.”
The couple had gotten engaged in January and had just gotten married over the weekend, marking the actress’s second marriage. She was formerly married to Paul McDonald from “American Idol,” and their divorce had just been finalized on January 2. For Somerhalder, on the other hand, this was his first time at the altar. Both stars have never had children.
