The successor to the 2014 hit devices, the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and its Edge variant, the world waits with excited anticipation as to what the next gen phablet has in store.
Rumors have been circulating for months regarding the possibility that the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 may come with 4K Ultra HD Super AMOLED display with 748 ppi. Should the South Korean tech firm push through with the alleged plan, this will make the fifth generation Note the first smartphone to launch a resolution of that quality.
While Samsung hasn't definitively admitted the specs will be in the upcoming Galaxy Note, they have confirmed that they are working on 3840 x 2160 Ultra HD displays, reported Sam Mobile. It's expected that the technology should make its way to devices within the year.
It was also noted by a source that the company has referred to the resolutions alongside the term "diamond pixel," which may refer to an alternative means of pixel matrix arrangement which may be more like PenTile rather than the typical RDB stripe matrix.
In addition, in terms of features, Note 5 would carry a more powerful processor, the 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 815 or something higher but it could also come with Samsung's Exynos processor. Other specs include 4GB of RAM and larger internal memory reaching as high as 128 GB.
It's believed that the Note 5 will come with an Edge model with a 5.89-inch (748 ppi) and 5.78-inch (762 ppi) display, respectively. Currently, the Galaxy Note 4 comes with a 5.7-inch display with 2560 x 1440 Quad HD Super AMODEL display (515 ppi).
'Samsung Galaxy Note 5' Release Date
When it comes to Samsung's release timeline in the past, Note devices are usually released during the IFA Expo which takes place sometime in September. With the anticipated fall release, production of the UHD panels would probably begin by August.
According to iDigital Times, one of the main concerns with regards to the current devices -- Samsung Galaxy Note 4, Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 Edge -- released by Samsung would be its battery performance.
Samsung has already made adjustments with its battery optimization, mainly due to its turbo charging feature and AMOLED displays, and it's been holding its own but with a resolution that doubles the specs, it's crucial that the firm will be able to adjust its battery accordingly.
