Actor Ryan Phillippe may be the next Marvel superhero come to life. During a recent appearance on "The Howard Stern Show," the 40-year-old star disclosed that he is currently in talks with Marvel about staring in a Netflix show.
"Marvel is interested in talking about Netflix, a series possibly," confirmed Phillippe (via IGN) but didn't elaborate on the role he'd be playing or offer any addition details.
It is rumored that the former husband of actress Reese Witherspoon is up for the role of Daniel Rand/ Iron Fist, as it remains the only role left uncast in the four TV shows that will lead up to "The Defenders."
While it's possible the role could be minor or a small recurring role, specifically making use oof the term "a series" making it more likely that the actor would star in the upcoming show.
"I have no real marvel news other than an upcoming meeting. sorry to disappoint fans thought there was more to it. there is no story there," tweeted Phillipe following the interview.
The news follows the introduction of Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) over Netflix which is set to span 13 episodes in a re-hash of the Marvel Comic character, Daredevil the vigilante.
As Marvel continues to dominate the silver screen, the powerhouse entertainment studio has set its eyes on television. In an earlier IGN report, Marvel confirmed four separate live-action TV series, namely "Daredevil", "Luke Cage" and "Iron First" and lastly, "Jessica Jones."
The masterplan includes the four shows eventually leading into one team-up mini-series called "The Defenders." The show is similar to that of "The Avengers." it will focus on a team of heroic characters. First up was "Daredevil" released this year and will be followed by the release of "Jessica Jones," "Iron First." and finally, "Luke Cage." Each show will have a minimum of 13-episodes.
"This deal is unparalleled in its scope and size, and reinforces our commitment to deliver Marvel's brand, content and characters across all platforms of storytelling. Netflix offers an incredible platform for the kind of rich storytelling that is Marvel's specialty," said President of Marvel Entertainment Alan Fine.
He added: "This serialized epic expands the narrative possibilities of on-demand television and gives fans the flexibility to immerse themselves how and when they want in what's sure to be a thrilling and engaging adventure."
There are still a number of possibilities so stay tuned for more.
