'The Big Bang Theory' Actor Bob Newhart Selling Bel-Air Mansion for $15.5 Million

Popular American stand-up comedian Bob Newhart has put up his French-style Bel Air mansion up for sale.

Variety reported that the actor who has frequented "The Big Bang Theory" lived in the estate for 25 years but is now willing to part with the residence for a price of $15.5 million.

The Los Angeles home totals 9,169 square feet which includes five bedrooms, 6 full bathrooms and an additional two half-bathrooms. The actor, 85, purchased the home back in the 1990s for a price of $4.2 million. Its 1.37 acre expanse is strategically located right in the middle of Bel Air's luxurious East Gate section.

The home has been on the market multiple times since 2013 and whoever swipes up this prime piece of real estate will enjoy a number of amenities that include a sprawling master suite, staff wing, private spa, patio, guest apartment, pool-side cabana as well as an in-ground lagoon-like pool that will allow you to enjoy both the indoors and outdoors.

The decor, however, is described to be very "traditional" but the layout and structure open up a ton of design possibilities for the new owner. There is a massive step-down formal living space consisting of wood details. There are also multiple fireplaces, a formal living area, and built-in wet bar.

Bob Newhart News

Earlier this year, Entertainment Weekly reported that Newhart won his first ever Emmy after seven nominations that began in 1962.

Newhart took home the award for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series for his role in hit comedy, "The Big Bang Theory." Upon receiving the recognition, Newhart thanked his family, specifically, his wife of 50 years and their four children.

Newhart appeared in the series as Professor Proton.

During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the veteran actor spoke about what makes the show click:

"It's beautifully cast, has great writing and it's intelligent. There was a longing for something intelligent -- to credit the audience being intelligent. It doesn't talk down to the audience at all. When we were on -- along with Mary Tyler Moore and the murderer's row of All in the Family, M*A*S*H and Carol Burnett -- we'd get almost Super Bowl numbers and there were only three of us. We'd get 44-45 shares, but there was some competition from cable. Now I look at the ratings and it's the first time I saw that No. 6 was The Bible on the History Channel. I've never seen a cable show that high in the national ratings. And people find the shows they like."

"The Big Bang Theory" is currently on its eighth season and airs Thursdays at 8:00pm on CBS.
