‘Revenge’ Season 5 Release Date & Spoilers: Next Season Cancelled? See Season 4 Finale Spoilers Here!

"Revenge" Season 5 will no longer be hitting screens, according to the announcement ABC made on Wednesday. It seems that the show's fans will only have to look forward to the series finale which was already slated for a May 10 date.

"We can officially tell our fans that this will be the end of the story," show runner Sunil Nayar told Entertainment Weekly. "We have been talking to the network and we all just wanted to make sure that we felt very confident. Now that everybody has seen the finale - which is fabulous - everybody understands that, as much as we all adore the show, it has hit exactly the mark it needed to to end."

"This is the season finale of 'Revenge' that will be airing in a couple of weeks," Nayar added.

Moreover, International Business Times reported that the show's Season 4 finale will be titled "Two Graves," with Confucius quoted stating, "Before you embark on a journey of revenge, dig two graves." The episode's title caused a lot of the fans to wonder which particular characters are going to meet their demise.

According to the rumor mill, Emily Thorne, played by Emily VanCamp, might die after the fiery fate of Victoria, played by Madeline Stowe, is revealed. An added speculation is that Charlotte, played by Christa Allen, might be the one responsible for Emily's death. Charlotte's return to the storyline might mean even more trouble for Emily, considering that the former had once attempted to set her half-sister on fire.

Other sources also claimed that David, played by James Tupper, might die due to his cancer diagnosis.

When "Revenge" first premiered on TV in 2011, it got extremely high ratings - having drawn 10 million viewers as well as a 3.3 18 to 49 demographic rating for its very first episode. The show dominated its time slot in its original schedule of Wednesday nights.

However, its ratings declined after the show was moved to Sunday nights. According to Examiner, the most recent episode of "Revenge" only attracted 4.45 million viewers and a 1.0 rating.

The declining ratings may have been one of the biggest reasons ABC decided to put a stop to the show. Even VanCamp indirectly confirmed the show's cancellation on her Twitter feed. "Four unbelievable years with the most incredible cast and crew," she wrote. "Could not be more grateful for the experience."
