‘Spider-Man’ Reboot Plot & Cast: Who will be Cast as New Marvel Lead? Choices Down to Asa Butterfield & Tom Holland [Rumors]

The "Spider-Man" reboot will reportedly start filming soon, which is why Marvel has to act more quickly in casting the young actor to portray the heroic web-slinger. The superhero character may have been portrayed by two different actors before, Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, but the Marvel Cinematic Universe wants a much younger actor this time around.

It was reported previously that Marvel had a shortlist of young actors whom they want for the job. However, Screen Rant reported that the list has been narrowed down to two choices, namely, Asa Butterfield of "Ender's Game" and Tom Holland of "In the Heart of the Sea."

The actors who were also part of the said shortlist were Timothee Chalamet of "Interstellar," Nat Wolff of "The Fault in Our Stars," and Liam James of "The Killing."

Shortly after the Marvel "Spider-Man" actor short list was revealed, the rumor mill continued to state that Butterfield is the strongest contender for the job - considering that he got the lead role in the sci-fi movie adaptation of "Ender's Game." Although all of the abovementioned young actors are relatively new to the movie industry, Butterfield is believed to be the most high profile one.

However, newer reports indicated that Marvel may be eyeing Holland due to a scheduling conflict with Butterfield. The 18-year-old actor had reportedly been cast for another lead role in Tim Burton's "Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children." Filming for this particular film has already started.

To date, there remains no official announcement on which actor the studio decided to work with for the "Spider-Man" reboot.

Furthermore, Charlie Cox, the actor who plays the role of Daredevil in the hit titular Netflix show, would want to be part of the upcoming "Spider-Man" film. Apparently, the actor has done his homework about his character - and how he fits in the Marvel Cinematic Universe - which is a good sign, should Marvel choose to take him on.

"I would love to see Peter Parker and Daredevil hang out," Cox told MTV. "There is a wonderful issue of the comics where Matt Murdock has to defend Daredevil, because the public do not know. And so, he has Peter Parker put on his Daredevil outfit so that he can sit in the docks. You know - great storyline."

Although Cox was very excited and hopeful to be part of the MCU through a connection with Spider-Man, he was admittedly disappointed that his good friend, Garfield, was no longer going to portray the superhero's role, according to Cinema Blend.
