'Microsoft Surface Pro 4' Release Date, Specs & Rumors: Phablet To Be Revealed Mid-May? Spec Sheet Leaked?

After Microsoft failed to unveil its highly anticipated Surface Pro 4 in the recent BUILD Conference, new reports indicated that the tech firm is looking to launch its newest hybrid phablet in the middle of May.

Followers of the company who attended the event were in great anticipation to have a first glimpse of the hybrid device. However, the tech firm based in Redmond, Washington did not unveil anything in the conference - much to the attendees' disappointment, noted Master Herald.

Nonetheless, some reports after the event claimed that the company merely pushed back the launch date of the device to a later time in mid-May. No reason was given for the said change in schedule but Techno Buffalo surmised that perhaps the new phablet is not yet ready.

As people await the arrival of the new Surface pro 4, numerous reports and rumors on its specifications have come out.

According to Latino Post, a report in Chinese tech site, 36kr.com, revealed key specifications of the upcoming device. It noted that the Surface Pro 3 successor would come with the fifth generation of Intel's Broadwell processor instead of the initially reported Core M.

Coming from the release of the Surface 3 in April which came with a fanless design, it is also rumored that the new Surface Pro 4 would have the same feature as well, with tiny holes strategically placed in its hardware to not just be part of the design, but to help dissipate heat inside.

While the new fanless design is aimed at making the device look thinner, it is said that the Surface Pro 4 would not necessarily be lighter than its predecessor. It is also said to have a 12-inch display like before with a 1260x1440 and 216 ppi resolution. However, the new device is reportedly arriving in other sizes such as 14 inches as well as a miniature 8-inch model, noted Neowin.

Meanwhile, Ecumenical News noted that the company is said to be gearing for an October global release right after it introduces the new Windows 10 operating system to the public.

No invites have been sent out by the company to confirm a special launch event in mid-May for the Surface Pro 4. However, it does not mean that there would be no event or unveiling anytime soon. It simply remains to be seen if the company would finally come out with the hybrid device on the rumored date.

Microsoft has yet to comment on the rumors and to make an official announcement.
