Royal Baby 2015: Duchess Kate & Prince William Announce Princess’s Name! Check Netizens’ Reaction!

Duchess Kate and Prince William had just introduced their newborn daughter to the loving public and to the press but withheld the announcement of her name, which led people to start betting on the possible names for the baby princess. It appears that the royal couple have now decided to end all bets and announced the name they chose for their baby girl - a name that is clearly a nod towards her late grandmother, Princess Diana.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge picked the name Charlotte Elizabeth Diana for their little girl.

The public became very excited after finding out that the royal couple decided to honor Princess Diana. Prince William also wanted his daughter to be named after her grandfather, Prince Charles, which accounted for the name Charlotte. Plus, Kate's sister's full name is Pippa Charlotte Middleton, according to Hollywood Life. Queen Elizabeth II was also honored in the baby princess' name.

As soon as her name was officially announced to the public, "Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana" immediately became a trending topic on social media all over the globe, as reported bySydney Morning Herald.

The Internet was abuzz with how Duchess Kate and Prince William managed to pay tribute to several members of both of their families at once. One user wrote, "Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana. Everyone is a winner! Ding ding ding."

The royal baby's name was also associated with the hit raunchy show from HBO, "Sex and the City." Although it is pretty certain that the show had absolutely no role in determining how the princess will be named, some Internet users found it fitting that the royal baby shared the name of one of the show's characters - the one who was the most prim and conservative of the posse. However, some thought otherwise.

"Charlotte Elizabeth Diana, but she is clearly a Samantha," wrote one fan. "Charlotte? If you ask me, the royal baby is such a Carrie," posted another.

Good Charlotte, a famous pop punk band, also inspired some puns about the royal baby's name. "I had no idea the royal couple were such Good Charlotte fans," a fan wrote on Twitter.

The new royal name was also linked with a famous children's book, "Charlotte's Web." A Twitter user wrote, "Does the new princess own the Internet? Is it 'Charlotte's Web?'"

Die-hard fans of the Harry Potter franchise were also quick in spotting a link between the princess' long name and the titular wizard's children in the book. He named his children James Sirius, Albus Severus, and Lily Luna - clearly sentimentally naming them after key characters in the books. Just like how Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana was named after the important people in Duchess Kate's and Prince William's families.
