'Tony Hawk Pro Skater' PS4, Xbox One, Xbox 360 & PS3 Confirmed for 2016, New Features Revealed

After eight years of waiting, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 5 was announced by Activision on Tuesday. The game will be launched in next-gen consoles namely, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One and shortly after, versions for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 will follow.

Game Informer reported that the the game is slated for release later this year but an exact release date has yet to be revealed.

"Pro Skater 5 is a call back to the old-school lineage of the first four titles - back when the franchise was in its prime. The game weds the series' finely tuned gameplay with new additions such as power-ups and the ability to shoot projectiles for specific missions.

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 5 features a new set of levels packed with objectives and missions you can complete solo or with friends via online co-op and competitive play. Whether you just want to have a session with friends or strangers or want to level up your character online and then take them offline, the game's online flow is seamless. Your created skate parks can also be shared with world."

Rumors of an upcoming title began earlier this year when someone posted a photo from and Activision event that showed a game logo in the background. Prior to this week's announcement, an unofficial mention of the game was made by Tony Hawk himself, recalled Digital Trends.

The new installment comes with Tony Hawk as the returnable frontman character who will be joined by new franchise names of skaters that include Aaron Homoki, Riley Hawk, David Gonzales, Lizie Armanto, Chris Cole and Ishod Wair.

"Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 5" is published by Activision and is currently being developed by Robomodo. It follows earlier titles that include 2009's "Tony Hawk: Ride," 2010's "Tony Hawk: Shred," and 2012's "Tony Hawk's Pro Skater HD."

The original game title was "Tony Hawk's Skateboarding" in 1999. The game's release has been critically acclaimed by experts with many of its titles being released over different platforms that include some old-generation consoles like PlayStation, Nintendo 64, Game Boy, Dreamcast and much more.

The game is one of the new titles expected from Activision that includes the upcoming title, Guitar Hero Live.
