‘The Simpsons’ Plot & Cast: Homer to Outlast Letterman, Jon Stewart & McDreamy! Here’s Why!

"The Simpsons" has just been renewed by FOX for two more seasons. It appears that the famous adult cartoon series continues its never-ending reign in pop culture eternity with a two-season renewal that carries the show to spring of 2017.

Although all the characters in Springfield are very famous now, it looks like Homer Simpson is the only one who is well aware that he is a celebrity. "I have outlasted Letterman, Jon Stewart, and McDreamy," Homer said, according to Screen Rant. "I have something they do not - a costly 200-donut-a-day addiction."

It may be true that "The Simpsons" is no longer as highly watched as it was during its first few seasons but nothing has been able to push it off its spot as one of the highest rated shows on FOX. After all, the show has been with the network for almost 30 years now.

The new seasons, Seasons 27 and 28, will be taking the show past its 600th episode mark. Once they reach this stepping stone, "The Simpsons" will be heading towards yet another all-time record in TV history.

The show first hit small screens in 1989 and won 31 Emmy awards ever since. It was actually the first animated series to ever win a Peabody Award, to be nominated for an Oscar for "The Longest Daycare" in 2012, and to be honored with its own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2000, as reported by Variety.

At present, the show is still in its 26th season but it has already surpassed 570 episodes. Moreover, yet another animated hit from FOX, "Family Guy," has just reached its 250th episode over the weekend. While "Family Guy" has yet to be renewed, a 14th season for the cartoon is definitely a no-brainer. Another famous cartoon from the network is "Bob's Burgers." It will be returning to the small screen with its sixth season - adding 22 more episodes to its slate for the 2015 to 2016 TV season.

"The Simpsons" will be returning on Sunday with an all-new episode, titled "Bull-E." In this episode, Bart, voiced by Nancy Cartwright, gets bullied during his school dance. Marge, voiced by Julie Kavner, then convinces the entire town to pass an anti-bullying legislation. Homer, voiced by Dan Castellanata, then gets arrested by the police because of bullying and he gets sent to a rehabilitation center, according to Coming Soon. This is where he is treated by bully-turned-therapist Dr. Raufbold, voiced by Albert Brooks.
