With the release of "Avengers: Age of Ultron" setting the stage for the next set of Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) films, all eyes are now on the upcoming film, "Ant-Man."
Paul Rudd is set to make this big screen debut as the comic book hero and according to a new report by Cinema Blend, a new teaser photo for the film suggests Ant-Man could be in the next Avengers team. The newly unveiled theatrical poster was accompanied by a tweet that suggests an expansion of the character's visibility within the MCU.
"Thanks for making #Avengers #AgeOfUltron a global event! Now, a new poster for the latest member of the team: @AntMan," wrote The Avengers account.
It definitely raises some eyebrows as the account used to make the release was the "Avengers" account and not Marvel. Similarly, it should be noted that the phrasing makes direct use of the phrase "latest member of the team."
However, in MTV's analysis, the poster for the flick "Ant-Man" -- which stars Paul Rudd alongside acting legend Michael Douglas -- may have also subtly distanced itself from the film. If you'll notice, rather than riding on the curtails of the massive success of "Age of Ultron," the poster chose to align itself with the Star-Lord and company as opposed to the mighty Avengers.
" Interesting choice, given the fact that 'Age of Ultron' just made all the money in the world. But it's a smart choice, too, if Marvel wants to distance "Ant-Man" from the arguably overstuffed "Avengers" epic in favor of something a bit more oddball, like 'Guardians.' It's a small thing (as is appropriate with Ant-Man), but it might tell you a whole lot about this movie's tone."
While nothing is certain at this point, the details in which the poster was released is definitely intriguing.
It was heavily speculated earlier that "Ant-Man" would be introduced in the "Avengers" sequel but obviously that didn't pan out. Hank Pym (aka Ant-Man) was the creator of Ultron in the comic series but for the "Age of Ultron" film, the plot saw Tony Stark/ Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) mastermind the creation of the villainous artificial intelligence.
Recalling an earlier statement by Joss Whedon, he explained that it was all due to Edgar Wright's work on the "Ant-Man":
"Of all the heat I've ever taken, not having Hank Pym was one of the bigger things. But the fact of the matter was, Edgar had him first and by virtue of what Edgar was doing, there was no way for me to use him in this."

"Ant-Man" will hit theaters on July 17.
