Popstar Miley Cyrus is continuing her advocacy on youth homelessness and has expanded her focus to include the LGBT population.
For those that don't recall, during the 22-year-old's acceptance speech for the 2014 Video Music Awards' Video of the Year award for "Wrecking Ball," the singer/ actress gave the floor to a young man named Jesse who spoke about homeless teens and encouraged the public to provide support.
Now, Cyrus is continuing what she began by launching a new foundation called the "Happy Hippie" which seeks to provide assistance to the homeless and LGBT youth, reports the Huffington Post. As the popstar admits that she's been involved in relationships with people who weren't "straight, heterosexual," she is now using her position and status as a way to increase awareness and generate support.
"The position I'm in, I feel like I've got a lot of power," commented the ex-fiancé of Liam Hemsworth during an phone interview with The Associated Press on Monday. "But so many kids don't feel that way. They're under their parents' rule."
She also believes that she has what it takes to do something about the issues regarding the homeless and LGBT youth.
"I'm the one that can fix it - I think I've been able to identify with it because I've never thought of myself as 'I'm a girl so I can't do this or can't do that.' ... I feel completely like I'm not tied to a gender or an age, I feel like an infinite cosmic thing, and that's what I want people to feel," said the "Party in the USA" singer during Tuesday's "Good Morning America" segment, per ABC News.
She related her actions as something similar to what "Keeping Up With The Kardashians" reality star Bruce Jenner recently did with his tell-all regarding his gender identity.
"I thought it was really cool in Bruce Jenner's interview when he talks about using the platform, like being on a reality show or me being on a tour, if it can get you in front of that many impressionable people and taking the power of social media it's the best thing ever," Cyrus said to the news outlet. "That's why with Happy Hippie we're putting on kind of an online support group, so this gives them a place to ask questions and to be educated."
As part of her campaign to raise money for the foundation, Cyrus has revealed that she will be holding a series of backyard concerts in her house. The musician will be collaborating with a number of artists that include Joan Jett, Ariana Grande, Melanie Safka and more, noted the Inquisitr.
Videos of the sessions will be available exclusively via Facebook where a donation button will be embedded.
