The next Google Nexus phone may come with upgrade display and processor specs.
There is speculation that the next Nexus smartphone will be Huawei-made and come with a Samsung 2K display. The report from GizmoChina details that Huawei will release a Nexus handheld with a Samsung-made 5.7-inch display and 2K (2560 x 1440) OLED screen.
In addition, the rumored smartphone will come equipped with the advanced Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor.
However, while a 2K display poses no problem for an 810 processor, it does back more punch which could decrease battery performance. In the past, Huawei has pointed out that 2K displays aren't practical but it could be that Google is pushing for the upgraded feature.
"I don't think we need QHD display on mobiles. Your eyes totally cannot identify between full HD and 2K on a smartphone. You can't distinguish the difference, so it's totally nonsense," quoted TechRadar of Huawei CEO Richard Yu during an interview at the Ascend P7 Paris launch event.
"We can [put a QHD display on a smartphone], but it's very bad for power consumption and it doesn't offer anything in return," he explained and added that "You eyes cannot see the difference, so why should we do that? I think it's a stupid thing."
In addition to the rumored Huawei device, Phone Arena reports that LG may be looking to return and release a new Nexus device after taking a year off. LG was the developer behind the earlier models such as Nexus 4 and Nexus 5 until Motorola took over and released the Nexus 6.
Other companies who have manufactured Nexus devices include Motorola, HTC and Samsung.
If the reports are true, this Huawei model will become a more high-end device. It's size will also be more manageable given that the Motorola Nexus 6 came in at 5.96 inches, shared Android Authority.
Google's partnership with the Chinese manufacturer is believed to be a good strategy by Google as local China-based firms are becoming major industry players that are becoming increasingly more popular in developing countries.
Huawei Nexus Phablet
In addition to the new Nexus, Huawei's Nexus phablet will most likely be released alongside Google's next Android version, Android M, reported TechTimes. Google has already confirmed that the tech will be unveiled at Google I/O on May 27.
More updates will be provided once available.
