The plot thickens on the real reason behind Patrick Dempsey leaving "Grey's Anatomy" last month. Rumors of Ellen Pompeo's hand in having the actor fired for "inappropriate behavior" quickly spread after InTouch broke the news.
While the said article has since been deleted, the rumor refuses to die down. The report of an alleged affair with a much younger production employee is cited as the cause of the actor's sudden death in the long-time runing show. InTouch revealed that "Patrick had an inappropriate relationship with a young woman who worked on the set."
It was further claimed that "[Costar] Ellen Pompeo found out and was angry because she's close friends with Jillian, so of course, she told her." The source also added that in addition to telling Jillian, the 45-year-old actress also told show creator and executive producer Shona Rhimes.
"Shonda has no patience for that kind of behavior," added the insider. This begs the question if the cheating issue contributed to the reasons why Dempsey's character Dr. Derek 'McDreamy' Shepherd was killed off, much to the surprise and dismay of some GA fans.
Radar's insider also dished that the relationship was obvious on set. "Patrick would remain in his trailer after hooking up with her on set and refuse to come out," said the source and added, "He had also been complaining about the storyline of his character, and felt he wasn't getting enough screen time."
The alleged affair was reported to have begun August last year and has affected the actor's work. Dempsey was initially given some time off and the staffer was moved off set to a production office with hopes of easing the tension on set. However, the damage was already done. As tensions run high, Dempsey's set behavior worsened and Rhimes acted by firing Patrick even though there was a year remaining in his contract.
After 15 years of marriage and three children together, earlier this year, Dempsey's wife Jillian Fink filed for divorce. There are rumors circulating that it is turning out to be a messy divorce and with no prenup agreement, the proceedings could prove costly to the actor.
"Grey's Anatomy" airs Thursday night at 8:00 pm on ABC.
