The team with the worst record eventually got the top pick for the 2016 NBA Draft. The Minnesota Timberwolves -- who ended the season with a woeful 16 wins out of the 82 game regular season -- landed the top pick for the upcoming rookie draft, reported ESPN.go.com.
The Wolves -- currently the NBA's last-prace finisher for the 2015 season - entered the lottery with a 25 percent chance of getting first pick. Rounding up the top five, the second pick overall was obtained by the Los Angeles Lakers, drawing third would be the Philadelphia 76ers and New York Knicks and Orlando Magic take fourth and fifth pick, respectively.
"It's (getting to pick first in the draft lottery) very important to us. We have a very young team, and one more outstanding young man will really help us," quoted Yahoo! Sports of Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor.
When prodded which position the pick would fill, Taylor didn't give much away saying, "We just want a young man that's got a great heart and great mind." Team president and head coach Flip Saunders added that currently, there is no consensus within the organization on who would the team would take first overall in next year's draft.
We'll just let Flip and his staff sum up how excited we are about that No.1 spot... #NBADraftLottery #EyesOnTheRise https://t.co/Q3dfceFBsI

The names included in the upcoming draft include Kentucky's Karl-Anthony Towns, Duke's Jahlil Okafur and Justise Winslow, Ohio's D'Angelo Russell among other, published USA Today. Many reporters had chosen Okafur to be the top pick but his value may have dipped a bit due to his poor showing during the recent NCAA Tournament, which his Blue Devils eventually won.
The NBA Draft used a lottery style ping-pong ball machine with balls numbered between 1 and 14. The 14 lottery teams, depending on their won-loss standing, would get a bigger share of the 1,000 four digit combinations that can be generated from the combination of ping pong balls. This year, the Wolves had 250 out of the 1,000 combinations, making it the favorite to pick first in the coming draft.
