Nvidia’s New GeForce GTX 980 Ti On A Par with The TITAN X

Nvidia's New GeForce GTX 980 Ti on a par with the TITAN X

The latest Nvidia graphics processing unit card called the GeForce GTX 980 Ti performs practically equal to TITAN X at a fraction of its price. Per the company's initial test scales, the upgraded GeForce GTX 980 can smoothly run graphic-intensive games. Its power is also fairly sufficient for supporting multimedia software development.

Varrying Power and matching performance

The GeForce GTX TITAN X has a 12GB frame buffer while the Nvidia GeForce GTX 980 Ti only has 6GB of GDDR5 memory. However, do we really need a 12GB memory to enjoy our games and videos? The new GTX 980 Ti helps keep 4K playable. It can run games such as Battlefield 4 and Shadow of Mordor at max settings. It maintains 31.6 fps when running the GTA V at high settings and even 45fps when running The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt in 4K. In a comparative matrix prepared by Anandtech, save for the memory size, the Nvidia GeForce GTX 980 Ti and Titan X are practically the same. Thus, even with only half the frame buffer of TITAN X, the new GTX 980 Ti is fairly enough to allow newbie and veteran gamers to play and enjoy the latest graphic-intensive games without the drag of drop frames, lags, and freezes.

4K Gaming

With Nvidia's 6GB frame buffer, 4K becomes the new standard of high-quality gaming. Considering the fast rate of obsolescence in technology, Nvidia matches the practicality of playing games and enjoying videos at reasonable resolutions without cashing out for an upgrade. It must be noted however that 4K monitors are fairly uncommon, and more users are inclined to lower resolution settings of their monitors. In line with this, Nvidia is set to launch 4K monitors embedded with G-Sync technology in cooperation with Asus and Acer.

Moreover, the GTX 980 Ti 4K is designed to complement the forthcoming DirectX 12 graphics APIs. This is especially useful for multimedia developers as it will improve the optimal use of memory when rendering complex animations and videos.

Outperforming TITAN X

The TITAN X will roughly cost you a thousand dollars. It gives you unnecessary power with a 12GB frame buffer for graphics. Meanwhile, the Nvidia GeForce GTX 980 Ti is estimated to sell at the $650 mark according to Techpowerup. With almost half of the price of the TITAN X but with nearly the same performance, the Nvidia GeForce GTX 980 Ti is sure to give people a better value for their money.
