The Meaning Behind Caitlyn Jenner's Name

What's in a name? Well for Caitlyn Jenner, it's definitely a rose that would sound sweet after years of research and consultation.

After Jenner broke the internet and struck millions of comments from people all over the world, many are now wondering: Where did the name "Caitlyn" actually come from?

The answer lies in a follow-up interview with Vanity Fair, where Jenner said, "It was one of the hardest things in life--choosing your own name."

The hunt for her name began two years ago. The 65-year-old athlete searched for inspirations among Miss America pageant competitions, looking at contestants and finding women whose life stories and traits reminded her of herself. From there, she found the names "Heather" and "Cathy" as potential candidates. But the name that stuck out the most was "Caitlyn." Still, the celebrity formerly known as "Bruce" was still not able to decide.

Later on, her assistant Rhoda suggested the name "Caitlyn" out of the blue, without knowing that Jenner was also thinking of the same thing.

"I love that name, too!" Jenner said. Then the rest was history. "Caitlyn doesn't have any secrets. As soon as the Vanity Fair cover comes out, I'm free," she previously said in Vanity Fair.

Many are also commenting about the spelling of Jenner's name, wherein the use of "C" or "K" was an issue because of her ties with the Kardashian family. The Kardashians are known to have first names starting with "K" (Kris, Kim, Kourtney, Kendall, etc.).

Admittedly, the name "Caitlyn" was Jenner's way of veering away from the Kardashian's tradition and asserting her own individuality.

And assert, she did.

Caitlyn Jenner recently broke not only the internet, but also the Guiness record for the fastest to grab 1 million Twitter followers. In doing so, she was able to beat former Guiness record-holder Barack Obama.

"Another Jenner world record, and at 65? Who'da thought! Humbled & honored to have reached 1M followers in 4 hrs. Thank you for your support," tweeted Jenner in response to her fans.

After the Vanity Fair July 2015 cover was revealed, more than 1.5 million tweets have been brought out about Jenner.
