Disney Confirms Sister Act Reboot, Plot Still In Progress

Disney confirmed that they are looking to reboot the 1992 Whoopi Goldberg blockbuster film, Sister Act, Cinemablend reported. According to the movie online review authority, Disney tapped the services of known writing tandem, Kristen "Kiwi" Smith and Karen McCullah, to draw the screenplay for the remake.

For the benefit of those who have yet to see the 1992 blockbuster or were born after 1992, the movie stars Whoopi Goldberg as Deloris, a Las Vegas Hotel (Reno) lounge singer who had witnessed a murder and went into a witness protection program while waiting for the trial to begin. As a preventive measure against those who want her dead, the police department placed her in a Catholic Church who is struggling to attract churchgoers. As a singer, she then taps the hidden singing talent of her co-nuns and created a choir that eventually brought in more people to see mass on a regular basis.

The movie was a huge hit grossing a total of roughly $140 million. Due to its commercial success, the movie stemmed out a sequel in 1993 coined Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit which also starred some of the previous actors including Goldberg. The sequel is about a bunch of middle school students helping their school from being shut down through singing. The sequel also stars the then teen stars, Jennifer Love Hewitt and actress/singer/rapper Lauryn Hill. To add, the hit movie also produced a musical in broadway.

According to Time, at this point, aside from the screenplay, no further details were given by the multi-billion entertainment company. There were also no confirmation that Goldberg, or the other actors who were in the film, will be involved in the upcoming remake. However, one thing is for sure, although minor details might be tweaked to make the movie fit for its time, the general flow of the story will be the same as the 1992 flick.
