Janet Jackson Update: Singer To Launch New Album After 7 Years

After seven long years away from the limelight, it's official: Janet Jackson and her fans all over the world will be together again as the pop icon announces the release of her album this autumn.

Jackson, through her own record label, Rhythm Nation, will be teaming up with BMG in the making of the album, according to her website. This "worldwide partnership" makes her the first female African-American recording artist to form her own record label. Here is a clip from her official statement:

"The partnership with BMG makes Janet Jackson the biggest worldwide superstar yet to quit the traditional record label system for a so-called artist services deal, designed to put artists in the driving seat. Unlike a traditional record deal, under an artist services deal the artist retains ownership of their recordings and full oversight of all costs and revenues."

BMG CEO Hartwig Masuch also said, "Janet is not just a supreme artist, she is a unique cultural force whose work resonates around the world. It is an honor that she has chosen BMG to release her long-awaited new album."

With no title announced yet, fans across the globe have been anticipating its launch since Jackson posted a video trailer in her Twitter account saying, "I promised you'd hear it from my lips. And now you will. This year, new music, new world tour, a new movement. I've been listening. Let's keep the conversation going."

Within three decades in the music industry, Jackson was able to make pop-music history with her record-breaking albums such as "Control" (1984), "Rhythm Nation 1814" (1989), "janet" (1993), and her last, "Discipline" (2008).

The 160-million-record selling artist's chart-topping songs include "Again," "When I Think of You," "Miss You Much," "Love Will Never Do," "That's The Way Love Goes," "Together Again," "Doesn't Really Matter" and "All For You."

Janet Jackson's most recent tour was last 2011.
