2015 French Open Update: Djokovic Deposes Nadal with Straight Sets in the Quarterfinals

Novak Djokovic beats Rafael Nadal for the first time in the French Open in straight sets 7-5 6-3 6-1, Wednesday, The Guardian reports. Nadal, who had been defending his title in the Roland Garros since 2010 for 5 consecutive years, loses to the top seed, Djokovic in the quarterfinals. Djokovic, who has been trying to get past Nadal in 6 previous French Open matches, 2 of them in the finals, has finally outmatched his formidable opponent.

Djokovic is in the best of his game as he quickly leads the game 4-0 in the first set, in the first few minutes. Nadal however isn't giving up easy though losing the set 7-5 to Djokovic. As Djokovic plays his best, Nadal plays his worst in Roland Garros ever since 2009, scoring 3 and 1 in the next two sets respectively.

Djokovic, proving to be worthy of no.1 in the world ranking, relentlessly hits winning serves and aces, strong long returns, and outstanding net plays through out the second and third set, ending the match earlier than expected. This is only the second time Nadal was ever beaten in the French clay since 2005, which was when he grabbed his first French Title. He had been dominating Roland Garros ever since except for a single break in 2009 where he lost to the Swede Robin Soderling in the 4th round. Djokovic will be facing world's no. 3 Andy Murray in the semifinals who have recently won over David Ferrer 7-6 (7-4) 6-2 5-7 6-1.

Meanwhile in Women's Singles, world's no.1 Serena Williams advances to the semifinals after a quick match against Italy's Sarra Errani scoring 6-1 6-3. She will be soon facing Switzerland's Timea Bacsinszky who recently ousted Alison van Uytvanck of Belgium 6-4 7-5. "I'm not putting too much pressure on myself... I'm surprised I'm still in the tournament, so this is really cool for me," Williams said in a BBC News report.
