Game 1 of the Stanley Cup finals between the Chicago Blackhawks and Tampa Bay Lightning saw the Blackhawks taking the game 2 goals to 1. In a report from cbssports.com, a passive Lightning defense saw the Blackhawks score two late goals to seal the win.
This was a game that the Lightning played not to lose. Leading one goal going into the final minutes of the third quarter after a dominant first two periods, the relentless Lightning game suddenly dissipated, allowing for the two goals in the third quarter. The first one was made by Blackhawk first round pick Teuvo Teravainen, and again ,his play assisted the winning goal by Antoine Vermetter.
The major highlight for the Lightning was the no-look, behind the back on the backhand tap by Tampa Bay's Alex Killorn. As shown in sbnation.com, this is reportedly one of the most exciting goals ever made and was done on the first five minutes of Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final.
As reported on al.com, many of the fans looked forward to the play of top goal scorers in the 2015 NHL season. Tampa Bay's Tyler Johnson led all scorers with 12 goals and 21 points for the post-season while Chicago's Patrick Kane followed suit with 10 goals and 20 points. On the defensive end, Tampa Bay goalie Ben Bishop led the league in post-season wins with 12 games, with three of them shutout wins. In the game though, the other stars on both teams led the action throughout the game.
In a post-game interview, as reported on montrealgazette.com, Blackhawks' forward Patrick Sharp summed up the game by saying, "I thought our team got better and better as the game went on. There's a belief in our room that we've never out of any game, no matter the score."
