New 'Star Wars' Movie Cast Update: Ewan McGregor Asked To Star in Obi-Wan Kenobi Trilogy

We haven't seen the end of George Lucas' Star Wars after Disney's acquisition of Lucas Films in 2012 which promised of future Star Wars projects. Several sources, cited in a Cinema Blend article reports that Ewan McGregor is in discussion with Disney executives for a potential Star Wars trilogy project. The new "Jedi" saga will revolve around Obi Wan Kenobi, a significant character in all the six movies from The Phantom Menace to Return of the Jedi.

Aside from R2D2 and C3PO not counting Darth Vader who was Anakin Skywalker, Obi Wan Kenobi is the only character who appeared in every episode. He plays the very important role of being both Anakin and Luke's mentor and unwavering friend. His character is also very essential in the storyline across all the Star Wars movies. It will not be a surprise if a new trilogy will be made with a story around the character, moreover, it would make a lot of sense. It's logical to either create a continuation of the plot from Return of the Jedi's ending or Obi Wan's life between episodes III and IV.

Ewan McGregor will surely be the best choice to portray the role. Aside from his outstanding performance in playing the part, the audience would be able to easily relate and immerse themselves in the story seeing the familiar Obi Wan.

There's a lot of rumors going on of a Star Wars project coming underway but this one seem to be getting louder than the rest and been in the circulation more consistently and longer than the others, Shmoes Know's sources say. The story will be isolated although related from the main plot of the 6 previous movies and will have its own structure and development. The Star Wars universe is vast and we have chartered a small section of it, it will be a shame if we stop now and very disheartening if we let the journey end there.
