NBC renewed "Hannibal" for a third season, and the first episode is set to air on 10 p.m. tonight.
In an interview by Variety with the show's executive producer and showrunner, Bryan Fuller, he said that this season is the one he "always wanted to make." He also discussed different topics, from the show's loyal fan base to the debate about sexual violence on television.
Den of Geek lists some of the things to expect on the TV series this season. According to the report, cast members such as Mads Mikkelsen, Hugh Dancy, Caroline Dhavernas, Laurence Fishburne, and Gillian Anderson, will be reprising their roles in Season 3. The third season will also introduce new cast members like Richard Armitage from "The Hobbit," who will play the role of a serial killer named Francis Dolarhyde. Zachary Quinto will also appear as one of Bedelia's former patients in the flashback scenes. Tao Okamoto from "The Wolverine" will appear as Chiyoh, while Nina Arianda will appear as Molly, Will's future wife. [Spoilers Alert!]
The third season catches up with Hannibal (Mads Mikkelsen) and also his former therapist Bedelia (Gillian Anderson) while they are in Europe. Just like in the book, the show will also feature Hannibal living in Florence, Italy under an identity of someone he previously murdered, and Bedelia will be pretending to be his wife.
Apparently, Will (Hugh Dancy) will not be the only one searching for revenge against Hannibal in Season 3. Mason Verger (Michael Pitt) will also be looking for the serial killer for vengeance for disfiguring him. He will also find an unlikely ally in the form of Alana (Caroline Dhavernas), and the two will join forces in the hunt for Hannibal. Fuller told SpoilerTV that Mason will eventually get to Bedelia and will be talking over dinner in the seventh episode of the season.
"Hannibal" is an Americal psychological thriller loosely based on some of the characters and storyline from the novel "Red Dragon" by Thomas Harris. It revolves around the relationship between FBI investigator Will Graham and the forensic psychiatrist/serial killer Hannibal Lecter, who eventually turn out to be archenemies. The show stars Hugh Dancy as Will Graham and Mads Mikkelsen as Dr. Hannibal Lecter. Watch trailer below:
