DC Comics to Upstage Marvel Movies, Comic Wars Extend to TV Shows

With the wild success of Marvel Cinematic Universe movies, its competitor, DC, is setting its sights on another company to lead the way against Marvel. According to a report from news.moviefone.com, DC's recent partnership with Warner Bros. is just one step in a multi-pronged plan to upstage their rivals.

The latest offerings from DC Universe will be kicked off by "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" and will be followed up by "Suicide Squad" several months later. There is also work being done on other DC characters such as "Wonder Woman," "Justice League," "The Flash" and "Aquaman," to name a few.

In an interview with Warner Bros. executive Greg Silverman, as reported in hollywoodreporter.com, he revealed, "We have a great strategy for the DC films, which is to take these beloved characters and put them in the hands of master filmmakers and make sure they all coordinate with each other. You'll see the difference when you see 'Batman v Superman,' 'Suicide Squad,' 'Justice League' and all the things we are working on."

According to a report from emertainmentmonthly.com, Marvel made the first move with "X -Men" back in 2000 followed by "Spider-Man" in 2002 and "X-men 2" the following year. Meanwhile, DC was a bit late in the movie arena but did start off with "Batman Begins" in 2005, which went head to head with Marvel's "Fantastic Four." DC then followed up with "The Dark Knight" in 2008. Marvel flopped with "Spider-Man 3" and "X-Men: The Last Stand." To reinvigorate its business, Marvel opened its new franchise character, "Iron Man."

As for television, according to a report from Forbes.com, DC had started to build its following with the TV series "Arrow" and "The Flash." Meanwhile, Marvel started its "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." and now has a new offer via Netflix, "Daredevil." More offerings from both Marvel and DC will definitely come up both in the big and small screen. Now the comic wars have clearly become movie and TV wars between DC and Marvel.
