Melissa McCarthy sees women's plus-sized clothing segregated in shopping malls, and she doesn't like it.
The 'Spy' star feels differently about plus-sized clothing being placed in another section in stores. She also perceives that shopping for plus-sized women hasn't gone better through the years, reports SALON.
In her interview with MORE magazine via Today, McCarthy poured her sentiments on the pressing issue. "People don't stop at size 12," she said.
"I feel like there's a big thing missing where you can't dress to your mood above a certain number. [Malls] segregate plus-size [women]. It's an odd thing that you can't go shopping with your friends because your store is upstairs hidden by the tire section. We'll put you gals over there because we don't want to see you and you probably don't want to be seen."
In line with her advocacy, McCarthy will be launching a clothing line this August. MORE declares that the 44-year-old comedienne will be launching 80 pieces, from size 4 to size 28, which will be sold at retailers such as Macy's, Bloomingdale's, and Nordstrom and on her website MelissaMcCarthy.com.
"There is just this weird thing about how we perceive women in this country. I would love to be a part of breaking that down," says McCarthy, as reported by Today.
McCarthy, mother of Vivian, 8, and Georgette, 5, also wants to set an empowering example for her daughters.
"When I told my daughters there had never been a female president, they were like, 'What! How is that possible?' I have an overactive sense of justice. I want women to realize you don't have to work for the company. You can run the company. I want the scope for them to be endless," she told MORE magazine via Today.
From this point on, Melissa McCarthy will surely be the new heroine of plus-sized women, and probably of all women, of today.
