‘The Vampire Diaries’ Season 7 Spoilers, Rumors: Stefan Becomes A Hero As Damon Struggles To Live Life Without Elena?

"The Vampire Diaries" has already been renewed for Season 7 and fans are now wondering what could possibly happen to Stefan and Damon now that Elena is no longer around.

According to Master Herald, the creators of the CW series need to be creative in terms of their storyline now that their lead star is no longer part of the cast. Last month, Nina Dobrev confirmed that she will not return to the series after her contract expired towards the end of Season 6.

Meanwhile, executive producer Caroline Dries recently revealed her plans for Stefan (Paul Wesley). According to her, Stefan will become his own person in Season 7, and this could potentially make him a hero.

"I'm really excited to see Stefan come into his own and he'll really take the role of a hero, which will be really cool. He's always been a hero but I think in a broader sense, he'll become more heroic next season," she told E! Online.

In other news, show creator Julie Plec recently spoke with Entertainment Weekly to dish on the future of Damon (Ian Somerhalder). According to her, Damon's character will trace back his roots from Season 1.

"Actually, let us take Damon down a different road and have more fun with his character and get back to that Season 1 Damon that everybody loved so much and that Ian Somerhalder loved so much," she said.

All of these changes in the storyline were revealed two years after Dobrev and Somerhalder split. Some fans are speculating that Dobrev's decision to exit the series had something to do with her failed relationship with her co-star. However, Dobrev recently slammed such rumors and said that she is happy at the moment and is also happy for Somerhalder and Nikki Reed's recent union.

"The Vampire Diaries" season 7 will premiere on the CW this fall.
