While Game 1 of the NBA finals saw the Golden State Warriors shut down the Cleveland Cavaliers, Game 2 was a different story altogether. This time, the Cavs were able to withstand a late game attack by the Warriors, 95-93, in an overtime.
The main issue, according to rappler.com, was the cold hand of NBA MVP Stephen Curry, who missed 13 of 15 tries from the 3-point line, which is an NBA record. The game was nip and tuck throughout, but the Cavs' Matthew Dellavedova hounded Curry all game long and was able to seal the win for the Cavs with two free throws at 10.1 seconds left in overtime.
The final 3:13 of the game saw the Warriors fight, led by Klay Thompson with 34 points. The lowest point of the game was the last possession of overtime, with the Warriors still having the chance to win. With Cleveland up by 1, Curry shot an airball over Matthew Delladova. In the next play, LeBron James was fouled and made one of two free throws, and again, Curry made a bad play in a pass to fellow Splash Brother Thompson, resulting in the Cavs sealing the win, according to espn.go.com.
With Games 3 and 4 at the Q, the home court of the Cavs, the Warriors will be tested with the finals battle.
In the post-game interview as reported on espn.com, Lebron James said, "If you're looking us to play sexy, cute basketball, that's not us right now. Everything is tough. We're going to come in with an aggressive mindset defensively and offensively. It has to be that for the rest of the series, no matter how many games it takes."
James had 39 points, 16 rebounds and 11 assists. He became what the Warriors or any team for that matter feared most: the combination scorer and facilitator that made his whole team click.
