The United States Army took necessary preventive measures as they took down their website after it was compromised by a group of hackers that is believed to be from Syria's troubled president, CNet reported. According to the report, The Syrian Electronic Army raised their hands as the culprit in the US Army's website attack on Monday that infiltrated their news and public information website. Reports said that pop-outs are posted in the website criticizing the United States Government of their military efforts in the Middle East.
In less than six months, the United States Army website has been compromised. The first breach happened when an apparent Islamic State sympathizer hacked the United States Army's Twitter and YouTube accounts. The United States Military's Central Command was also hacked and got their profile image replaced by a group of ISIS supporters.
Not long ago, the United States was also attacked that has compromised the information of roughly 4 million federal employees, and the breach was traced back to China. Also, late last year, another attack that was traced back to the Russian government, breached an unclassified network that is being utilized by White House advisers.
The United States Army has released an official statement, through Brigadier General Malcom B. Frost, confirming the attack. The general also said that the United States Army has taken down their website, temporarily, to prevent any further attacks that might compromise a more sensitive and unclassified documents and data.
Ironically, during the attack, United States President Barack Obama is in an engagement that deals about cyber terrorism. According to NY Post, the president is in Germany at the G7 summit, in which he pointed out how the United States has outdated computer systems which is significantly vulnerable to cyber-attacks.
President Obama also said that the problem will not go away, as he responded to the attack that has compromised 4 million federal employees. He also said that it will accelerate, which means that they need to be nimble and as aggressive and well-resourced like the attackers.
