'Spy' Release, Update: Movie Beats San Andreas, Entourage at the Box Office

There is no stopping Spy moving up the box office.

The espionage comedy movie, starring Melissa McCarthy, Jason Statham, and Jude Law, has now brought in $30 million, sneaking past San Andreas for the top spot in the box office this last weekend, as reported in Vulture.

Dwayne Johnson's earthquake disaster epic San Andreas landed second place with $26.4 million. With Carla Gugino, Alexandra Daddario, Paul Giamatti, and Archie Punjabi also in the line-up, the movie is making its way to the $100-million mark with $99.1 million total in North America. The movie is also reported to be Johnson's highest-grossing film in which he plays a lead.

Meanwhile, Insidious: Chapter 3 opened in the box office this weekend with an estimated $23 million, cozying up in third place. The horror prequel, starring Lin Shaye, Dermot Mulroney, Stefanie Scott, and Angus Sampson, only had a budget of $10 million, hence, it doesn't need much to earn profits.

Another movie that opened last week and failed to top Spy is Warner Bros. and New Line's revival of the HBO show Entourage, starring Jeremy Piven, Kevin Dillon, Jerry Ferrara, Kevin Connolly, Adrian Grenier, Emmanuelle Chriqui, Haley Joel Osment, and Billy Bob Thornton. It was only able to earn $17.8 million during its five-day opening.

George Miller's action flick Mad Max: Fury Road has certainly lived up to its name after crossing the $300 million mark with another $8 million added. Many critics went mad over the apocalyptic movie starring Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron reportedly leading to more instalments.

Musical comedy Pitch Perfect 2 just got pitch slapped from second, to sixth place with $7.7 million last week. Overall, its total is $250 million, not bad for Universal Pictures.

Disney sci-fi Tomorrowland starring George Clooney, Britt Robertson, Hugh Laurie and Raffey Cassidy earned $7 million in its third week at the box office, bringing its global total to $169.7 million. Considering its budget of $190 million, the movie's future is not looking so bright.

The result of this week's box office is significantly low compared to last year' June wherein The Fault in Our Stars earned $48 million and Edge of Tomorrow opened with $29 million.
